About the UAE Work Permit (Standard)
The standard UAE Work Permit (issued via MoHRE) is the default 2-year employer-sponsored pathway covering ~85% of the UAE expat workforce. The employer absorbs all permit, medical, and Emirates ID costs. Salary requirements vary by job category (Tier 1 / 2 / 3 classification) but are generally lower than Golden / Green Visa thresholds.
The permit is renewable indefinitely as long as the employment relationship continues. The 'absconding' risk associated with older Kafala-style arrangements has been mitigated by 2022 labour-law reforms — workers can now switch employers without no-objection certificates after probation. Family sponsorship is permitted from AED 4,000/month salary upward.
