Profielschets first · No BSN · Photo and age optional
The Dutch CV is short, factual and light on personal data. This layout opens with a profielschets and leaves off your BSN, which employers may not ask for when you apply, plus photo and date of birth, which are optional.
The Dutch CV is one of the plainest in Europe, and that is the point: recruiters here scan for facts, not presentation. Keep it to one or two pages, reverse-chronological, opening with a short profielschets - three or four lines saying who you are professionally and what you are looking for. Personalia stay minimal. Dutch application guidance consistently lists four contact fields as sufficient: full name, phone number, a professional email address, and the city you live in - a full street address is not expected. What you leave off matters more than what you add. Never put your BSN (burgerservicenummer) on a CV: under Dutch data-protection rules an employer may not ask for it during a selection procedure at all, only once you are actually hired, and the same applies to a copy of your passport or ID card. A photo is neither required nor forbidden in the Netherlands, and date of birth is not required either - both are optional and often left off, so if you are applying from a country where a photo is standard, this is a field you can drop rather than translate. Most Dutch vacancies also expect a motivatiebrief alongside the CV; it is a separate document, not a paragraph on the CV. If the vacancy is written in English, apply in English - at Amsterdam-region and international employers this is normal and switching to Dutch you do not command reads worse than applying in English. The underlying shape is a clean single-column layout, and like every LumiCV template it is parse-tested: we render it to PDF and check that a parser reads each field back in order.
