About the Skilled Worker Visa (UK)
The UK Skilled Worker visa is the post-Brexit replacement for the Tier 2 General. Minimum salary from 22 July 2025: £41,700/yr (or 100% of the occupation's going rate, whichever is higher). A reduced floor of £33,400/yr applies to roles on the Immigration Salary List, new-entrants, and PhD-relevant roles. Tech roles (software dev, data engineer, ML specialist) qualify under the eligible-occupation list.
Employers must hold a valid Sponsor Licence — the Home Office publishes the full list publicly (currently ~80,000 sponsors). Processing is 8 weeks standard or 5 working days priority. After 5 years on the visa, holders qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (UK permanent residency) — though the April 2026 'earned settlement' consultation may extend that timeline for some routes.
