About the EU Blue Card (Netherlands)

The EU Blue Card is the Netherlands' harmonised alternative to kennismigrant for non-EU highly qualified workers. The Dutch implementation requires a salary of at least €5,942/month (2026 standard threshold) or €4,754/month under the reduced threshold for recent graduates, plus a recognised university degree or 5+ years of equivalent professional experience.

The Blue Card permits intra-EU mobility after 12 months in the Netherlands — useful if your eventual target is Germany or another EU market. Processing runs through the IND as with kennismigrant, but the employer doesn't need to be a recognised sponsor — any Dutch employer can hire on a Blue Card. Many candidates default to kennismigrant when the employer is registered; Blue Card is the fallback when they aren't.
