About the Skilled Worker Permit (Sweden)
Sweden's work permit is employer-sponsored. Since 1 June 2026 the salary must be at least 90% of the national median wage, which is SEK 34,470/month after Statistics Sweden's June 2026 update; exempted professions need at least 75% of the median. Migrationsverket processing is 1–4 months. Sweden's tech market is concentrated in Stockholm (Klarna, Spotify, Mojang, Northvolt) and Malmö (paid acquisition cluster); English is the working language at virtually all scale-ups.
After 4 years on a work permit, holders qualify for permanent residency. The 2023–26 reforms tightened both salary floors and employer-dependency rules — always verify current thresholds with Migrationsverket before relying on older guidance.
